THE CONCERT:
Well, I believe I bought the very first ticket because I personally drove to Caesar's to
get my ticket on August 15th (the very first day that they went on sale) only to find out
that I had to call Ticketmaster instead! Okay, so I did right then and there in the
casino! I received a ticket in the mail with seat #1 on it only to find out that it
would be maitre d' seating. Needless to say, we ended up with seats that were pretty
far away from the stage. However, Keisha of the Simply
Unforgettable website was able to get us moved to better seats during the show; way to
go Keisha!
The following are highlights of the show:
I usually hear Natalie before I see her on stage because, as the fans know, she sometimes makes her entrance by singing off stage. This time, as the lights were dim, I could see her standing on stage with her backup singers and the band members. It was a pleasant surprise to just see her standing there. When she broke into "Criminal," she had me going already. I loved it! She had on jeans with sequins on them and a gold beautiful matching vest. From there on, I couldn't really say which song happened in which order because I was so moved by her singing. She tore up! "Old Man" and "Love Letter" sounded so good. A minor adjustment had to be made to "Day Dreaming" which stopped her for only a second, but she soon had us jamming to the groove again because she told the band something like "forget about that, let's just keep on going." Natalie put her own stamp on "Day Dreaming." It's amazing because Natalie singing in concert sounds just like her records, only even better if you can imagine that! Ooh, I just love "The More You Do It (The More I Like It Done To Me)," a Yancy and Jackson pinned tune, and "Leavin.' I couldn't believe I was hearing Natalie sing them live! All I can say is "awesome!" Natalie and her back-up singers went at it with "I've Got Love On Mind" and you know that the old school folks were just through because it was beyond words! Natalie's voice soared; she set the place off! It was so great! Let's not forget the band (which includes her son Robert) who were all kickin' it until the end! She had everyone reflect on how singers would talk in the beginning of songs. It reminded me of "I'm Catching Hell" from the Unpredictable album. Then she talked her way right into "Leavin'" and really sung from deep within. It was very moving. I could only sit in awe when she sung "5 Minutes Away" because I just can't get enough of that song. She even had the ladies and the guys do separate parts for audience participation. I thought it was so cool to hear her repeat the guys' part in a deep voice (something like "five, five, five minutes away").
I wanted to run out of the building when Natalie started playing a black piano that was rolled out on stage as she sung "I Think It's Going To Rain Today!" Oh my goodness; I was floored! She played that piano and nailed every note of the song! Wow, I'm still amazed! She sung "Pink Cadillac" and mixed in some of Aretha Franklin's "Freeway of Love" and "Rock Steady." "This Will Be" had everyone standing up. Last but not least, hearing Natalie talk her way into "I'm Catching Hell" took me back to her Natalie...Live album! It seemed like I was in church. The audience loved it! At one point, Natalie was shouting (as in a praise dance) and I was moved even more at this awesome Singing Sensation. She brought the house down! You've got to love her; you've got to see Natalie Cole: A Living Legend in concert. You're guaranteed to have an awesome experience!
